They moved frequently as he was a Navy pilot in WWII.  After the war they moved to Reading, MI, where Dewitt taught at Reading High School.  They accepted the call to missions in 1949 and moved to Sierra Leone, West Africa, with their sons Ronnie and Norman.  First stationed at Bonthe, Evelyn was the Head Matron at Minnie Mull Girl’s School.  They were later stationed in Gbangbaia, then Mattru, and later Bumpe.  2 daughters, Joyce and Annette were added to the family. While in Mattru, their 8 -year- old son Norman was killed in a launch boat accident.  They returned to the United States in 1965 when DeWitt accepted the call to be Huntington College President (1965-1981).  Evelyn was a member of College Park United Brethren Church, Women’s Missionary Society, Huntington College Ladies Auxiliary and Garden Club.  Evelyn willingly shared her musical talent by playing piano for Rotary Club and at local Nursing Homes.  She was an avid bird watcher and loyal supporter of Huntington University Basketball.
