Kenneth T. "Shine" Bechtold, 98 of Roanoke, passed away Friday July 9, 2010 at 6:40 am at Visiting Nurse & Hospice Home, Fort Wayne.  He was a sergeant in the US Army during WW II, serving in the European Theatre, was a self-employed carpenter and a 50 year member of Roanoke Masonic Lodge.

Kenneth was born June 21, 1912 in Bippus, the son of Conrad and Glennie J. (Elsea) Bechtold.  On October 24, 1951 he married Edith J. McMaken in Fort Wayne and she preceded him in death December 26, 2003.  He is survived by a daughter Jane Bechtold of Columbia City and a sister Helen Meyer of Wabash.  He was preceded in death by 9 brothers and sisters.

Private graveside services will be held at Glenwood Cemetery, Roanoke with Roanoke Masonic Lodge providing services and Roanoke American Legion providing military honors

 Preferred memorials may be made to Shriner's Children's Hospital c/o Roanoke Memorial Chapel, 240 Crestwood Drive, Roanoke, Indiana 46783

Jane,

Sorry for your loss. I remember Shine when I was young, growing up in Northern Huntington county. He helped my father, Dick Anderson, build a tall grainery (late 1960s). There were many days that I would come to see the work being done and he always had a time to say hello. A wonderful man!

JANE, SHINE WAS ALWAYS THERE FOR REX & JIM WHEN JOE DIED . YOUR DAD WAS A TRUE FRIEND TO THIS FAMILY. HE WAS A FUN GUY TO BE AROUND AND WE THOUGHT OF HIM OFTEN. HE IS TRULY MISSED. REX AND NANCY MARTIN
