Arlene R. Hammel, age 95, passed away Tuesday, March 1, 2022 at 9:02 pm at her home surrounded by her beloved family. She graduated Huntington High School in 1945. Arlene was a partner in Hammel’s Home Appliance Shop. She was a member of Church of the Nazarene, Huntington, Model T. Ford Club, Antique Automobile Club of America, and Wheelman Club.
Arlene was born October 5, 1926, in Huntington, a daughter of Ezra and Bessie (Strine) Funk. She married Richard P. Hammel in Biloxi, MS and he passed away November 13, 2000. She is survived by a daughter Brenda Rittenhouse of Huntington, daughter-in-law Sandy Hammel of Fort Wayne, six grandchildren Joshua (Erica Mabery) Rittenhouse, Christa (Jayson) Spurgeon, Audra Rittenhouse, Timothy Hammel, Pam Curdes, great-grandchildren Kalib Mabery, Hunter Mabery, Andrew Spurgeon, Archer Deverell, Selah Spurgeon, Levi Spurgeon, Tristan DeFord, Lindsey Adams, Abigail Curdes, 2 great-great-grandchildren, and sister Bessie June Risk of Traverse City, MI. She was preceded in death by two daughters Crystal Ann & Lynette Ann Hammel, two sons Rodney and Terry Lee Hammel, six sisters Ruth Ensminger, Erma Funk, Elizabeth Ensminger, Violet Chiapetta, Emma Jean Lutus, Josephine Lofland, and three brothers Daniel, Jacob & Ben Funk.
Visitation will be held Friday, March 4 from 1-6 pm preceding the 6 pm funeral service at Church of the Nazarene, Huntington. Pastor Bobby Kemp will officiate. Burial will take place Saturday, March 5 at 10:00 am in Pilgrims Rest Cemetery, Huntington.
