Obituary

 

Arthur E. Searles, age 94, of Andrews, passed away Wednesday, December 16, 2020, at 1:25 pm at Peabody Retirement Community, North Manchester.  He graduated from Banquo High School in 1945.  He was a forklift operator at Anaconda Wire & Cable, retiring in 1988, and was past president of Eagles Lodge #823 and a member of American Bowling Congress. He dearly loved his family, was devoted to his grandchildren, and  enjoyed being outdoors hunting and fishing.

Arthur was born October 1, 1926, in Mount Etna, a son of Everett and Nellie (Griffin) Searles.  On July 4, 1954 he married his beloved wife of 66 years Thelma I. McKinzie in Roanoke.  She survives in Andrews.  Also surviving are 3 daughters Cindy Anderson of Andrews, Patricia Bartrom of Huntington, Carol (Bill) Graham of Atlanta, MO, several grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, several great-great-grandchildren and a brother Richard Searles of North Manchester.  He was preceded in death by 2 daughters Mary Searles and Anna Madaris, a son John Searles, a grandson Donald R. Karst, Jr., 2 sisters Katherine Shively and Amanda Welch, and a brother Wesley Searles. 

Visitation will be held Saturday, December 19 from 5-8 pm and Sunday, December 20 from 10-11 am preceding the 11:00 am funeral service all at Deal-Rice Funeral Homes- Huntington Chapel.  Pastor Gary Brown will officiate.  Burial will follow in Mt. Etna Cemetery.
