Brenda J. Smith, age 78, of Roanoke, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her loving family Sunday, November 28, 2021 at 7:26 pm. She was an avid baker and owned Kenda’s Bake Shoppe in Roanoke in the 70’s & 80’s. She then owned K & B Landscaping with her husband, and worked at One Summit Square. She retired as office manager in 2011 from Executive Management Services in Fort Wayne. Brenda was a member of Seminary United Methodist Church and a 50 year member of Roanoke American Legion Post #160 Auxiliary. She collected cookbooks and enjoyed trying new recipes, often putting her own special twist on them and using ingredients from her extensive garden. In addition to vegetables for cooking and canning she enjoyed raising an array of flowers.
Brenda was born June 7, 1943, in Cannelton, IN, a daughter of Monroe Shephard and Hilda A. (Reed) Shephard Fox. On November 18, 1961 she married her beloved husband of 60 years Kent D. Smith at Seminary United Methodist Church in Roanoke. He survives in Roanoke. Also surviving are two sons Kelly D. (Lisa) Smith and Timmothy L. Smith, 6 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, two sisters Linda (David) Paulsen of Garrett and Patricia Shephard-Kaylor of Fort Wayne and a brother Ronald (Kathy) Shephard of New Haven. She was preceded in death by a son Bruce A. Smith.
Visitation will be held Friday, December 3 from 2-4 & 6-8 pm and Saturday, December 4 from 1-2 pm preceding the 2:00 pm funeral service all at Roanoke Memorial Chapel of Deal-Rice Funeral Homes. Pastor Chris Dourson will officiate. Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery, Roanoke.
