Eugene K. “Gene” Baker, age 76, of Andrews and formerly of Sterling, IL, passed away Saturday, December 19, 2020, at 5:05 pm at Parkview Regional Hospital. He graduated from Northside High School, Fort Wayne in 1962, earned his Bachelor’s degree from Fort Wayne Bible College and his Master’s degree in divinity from Huntington College. He served in the US Army in Vietnam, and pastored various churches in the United Brethren denomination. He was a member of Calvery Evangelical Congregational Church, Hoople, IL, a member of Huntington American Legion Post #7 and NRA. He was a skilled carpenter.
Gene was born April 25, 1944, in Fort Wayne, a son of Elmer Eugene and Eleanor (Schwarz) Baker. On June 8, 1968 he married his beloved wife of 52 years Bronwyn Hemmig in Fort Wayne and she passed away December 13. 2020. Surviving are 3 brothers Steve (Donna) Baker of Huntertown, Mike (Jackie) Baker of Leo, Tom (Susan) Baker of Nolansville, TN, a brother-in-law Dave Lauer of Andrews and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and parents he was preceded in death by a sister Linda Lauer.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday, December 30 at 11:00 am in Riverside Cemetery, Andrews. Pastor Gary Brown will officiate.
