Ilo Jane Martin, age 104, of Roanoke, passed away Wednesday, March 23, 2022, at 8:26 pm at Heritage Pointe of Huntington. Ilo Jane graduated from Roanoke High School in 1935 and attended Manchester College. She worked as an assistant manager of the Maumee Variety Store in Fort Wayne for three years and as receptionist for the Protective Electrical Supply Company in Fort Wayne for 15 years. She & her husband lived in the house & farmed the land where she grew up west of Roanoke. She was a lifelong member of Pleasant Chapel Church, Roanoke, member of WCTU Iota Sigma in Fort Wayne, the Presbyterian Youth Club, the USO Junior Hostess, Salvation Army Auxiliary and held an office in Huntington Women’s Club. She enjoyed traveling. and had a dog they loved and had a lot of fun with for many years. Ilo Jane always tried to appreciate & notice the little things of life as well as the big.
Ilo Jane was born February 3, 1918, in Jackson Township, a daughter of George W. and Etta L. (Morrow) Altman. On February 4, 1950 she married her beloved husband of 60 years William G. Martin in Roanoke and he passed away April 2, 2010. She is survived by nieces Nancy (Jerry) Juillerat, Patricia Potts, Mary Ellen Perray and Stella (Jim) Goodpasture, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and many close friends, some of whom she loved as her own children. She was preceded in death by two brothers Carl E. and Paul C. Altman, a sister Ruth Poinsatte and a niece Joan Altman Kloer.
Visitation will be held Monday, March 28 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm preceding the 12:00 pm funeral service at Deal-Rice Funeral Homes- Huntington Chapel. Pastor Bill Rapp will officiate. Burial will follow in Pleasant Chapel Cemetery, Roanoke.
