M. Dennis Hay, age 73, of Huntington, passed away Tuesday, February 8, 2022, at 10:03 am at Roudebush VA Medical Center, Indianapolis. He served in the US Navy in Vietnam, rising to the rank of first class petty officer. Dennis received his Bachelor’s degree in Religious Music from Atlantic Baptist Bible College, Chester, Virginia, and his masters and doctorate in Religious Education from Community Bible Seminary, Richmond, Virginia. He worked in bi-vocational ministry for 30 years, during his time of ministry he was a truck driver and deputy sheriff. He was a member of Cornerstone Alliance Church, Roanoke. He enjoyed music; he sang and played an assortment of brass instruments and the drums. Dennis enjoyed riding his motorcycle, but his greatest joy in life was mentoring in the church.
Dennis was born February 29, 1948, in Richmond, IN, a son of Kleber Eugene and Irene (Heiger) Hay. On January 5, 1974, he married his beloved wife of 48 years Venus Thompson in Majenica. She survives in Huntington. Also surviving are two nieces Shirley (Ron Ringley) Bigga of Richmond, Jackie (Don) Harvey of Greensfork, five great-nieces and nephews and numerous great-great nieces and nephews, cousins Carol (Gary) Swigartof Dayton, Ohio and Pat (Ed) Burton of Muncie, sisters-in–law Debora (Frank) Barth of Lagro and Pamela (Dana) Pegg of Marion, brother-in-law Gary (Mary) Thompson of Huntington, 11 nieces and nephews in-law and 21 great nephews and nieces in-law. He was preceded in death by three brothers Kleber Eugene Jr, Robert and Kenneth Hay, and two sisters Imogene Haffner and Carolyn Gibson.
Visitation will be held Saturday, February 12 from 12:00 to 1:30 pm at Deal-Rice Funeral Homes- Huntington Chapel preceding the 2:00 pm graveside service at Lancaster Cemetery, Lancaster. Pastor Rick Harris will officiate.
