Maxine June Dugan, age 92, of Roanoke, passed away Sunday, January 9, 2022, at 11:00 am at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne. Maxine graduated from Roanoke High School in 1947 and from a 1 year secretarial course at International Business College, Fort Wayne. She worked as a telephone operator at GTE for 39 years, retiring in 1990. She was a member of First Brethren Church, Roanoke, an avid gardener, and was known for her hard-working, independent spirit.
Maxine was born August 2, 1929, in Fort Wayne, a daughter of Ralph P. and Josephine Mary (Schoeff) Steinbacher. She is survived by a son Robert F. Dugan Jr, of Roanoke, a daughter Vanessa L. Ditton of Churubusco, two grandchildren Jeff (Dawna) Ditton and Emily Smith, and two great-grandsons Xavier and Alexander Smith. She was preceded in death by two sisters Darlene Hyser and Beverly Gruesbeck.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 18 from 10-11 am prior to the 11:00 am funeral service at Roanoke Memorial Chapel of Deal-Rice Funeral Homes. Pastor Ken Thompson will officiate. Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery, Roanoke.
