Paul J. Vining, 85, of Roanoke, passed away Thursday, August 20, 2020, at his home.
Paul and his late wife, Patricia, owned Vining Slaughter Haus for 30 years, and he also retired from Per Mar Security. Paul was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Sons of the American Legion and was a third degree Knight of Columbus. He also enjoyed his family, hunting and fishing, and volunteering. Most notably, his volunteer service on the Roanoke Police Department for 8 years, Roanoke Town Board, Roanoke American Legion Bingo, St. Joseph Church and most recently Love in the Name of Christ of Huntington from 2015-2020, where he was volunteer of the year 2017.
Paul was born October 8, 1934, to George & Susanna Vining in Fort Wayne. He attended Central High School in Fort Wayne and on August 7, 1954, married the love of his life Patricia (Repp) who preceded him in death December 17, 2013. He was also preceded in death by his parents, brothers Earl and Gearge Jr., his sister Mae Vining, and 2 grandchildren.
He is survived by his daughter Paula (Steve) Stinsen of Fort Wayne; sons, David (Carol) Vining of Huntington, Steven Vining of Daytona Beach, FL, Joseph (Lori) Vining of Roanoke, and Anthony Vining of Fort Wayne, Also surviving are five grandchildren: James (Michelle) Stinson, Angela (Derek) Dane, Nickalaus (Jennifer) Vining, Ian (Blythe) Vining Susanna (Mike) Hinen, as well as 10 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 641 N Main Street, Roanoke, on Sunday, August 23 from 3-7 pm; and one hour prior to the funeral Mass. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am Monday, August 24 St. Joseph, with Father Dale Bowman officiating. Burial will be immediately following in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Roanoke.
