Phyllis Dawn Witherow, age 104, of Roanoke, passed away Tuesday, July 14, 2020, at 7:40 am at the Heritage of Huntington. She graduated from Roanoke High School in 1934, and received her associate degree from International Business College in 1935. She worked in the office at Hatchery and International Harvester, then as a teller at Roanoke State Bank. She was a member of Seminary United Methodist Church where she was a member of United Methodist Women and held many offices. She also belonged to DAR, Roanoke Better Homes & Gardens, and a bridge club. She enjoyed researching genealogy and doing needlework.
Phyllis was born January 11, 1916, in Whitley County, a daughter of Floyd B. and Hilda (Bowman) Kelsey. On May 19, 1940 she married her beloved husband of 62 years Verlin Witherow in Roanoke, and he passed away May 23, 2002. She is survived by a son David (Judy) Witherow of Sharpsville, 2 daughters Lana Leeger of Plainwell, Michigan and Anne Elise (Mike) Hasty of Roanoke, 10 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, sister Barbara (Jim) Graham of Troy, Ohio, and sister-in-law Nancy Kelsey of Fort Wayne. She was preceded in death by an infant brother and infant sister, brothers Floyd B. Kelsey, Duane Kelsey and Bob Kelsey and sister Patricia “Pat” Watkins.
