Randy G. Porter, 65, of Roanoke, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family Friday, January 29, 2021, after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. He had worked with his father in the family business, Porter Construction, until his father’s death in 1996. He then worked for Fox Contractors as a heavy equipment operator. He was a member of International Union of Operating Engineers, Local #103 member of Sons of the American Legion Post #160 and also volunteered many years with the Roanoke Parks Department and Roanoke Tractor Pullers Assoc. He enjoyed golfing, watching Nascar and football as well as tinkering in his barn.
Randy was born March 7, 1955, to Don Porter and Mary (Eberly) Porter Squire in LaGrange, IN. His mother survives in Fort Wayne. On April 21, 1973 he married his high school sweetheart Susan Sheets. She survives in Roanoke. Also surviving are 3 sons: Joshua (Shanon) Porter and Jason (Jessica) Porter both of Roanoke and Jeffrey (Shelly) Porter of Fort Wayne; 6 grandchildren Kelsey, Aiden, Addyson, Brooks, Ciera, and Gage, brothers Rick (Roxie) Porter of Fort Wayne, Dan (Cheryl) Porter of Roanoke, Bill Porter of Fort Wayne, Bob (Rhonda) Porter of Des Moines, IA, and a sister Melissa Leggett of Colorado.
Visitation will be Monday, February 1 from 2-4 & 6-8 pm and Tuesday, February 2 from 10-11 am preceding the 11:00 am service all at Roanoke Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery.
