Richard Wayne “Gomer” Pyle, age 70, of Roanoke, passed away Friday, October 16, 2020 at his home. He was a 1969 graduate of South Adams High School and served in the National Guard. He worked at International Harvester then as a truck driver for USF Holland for 25 years, retiring in 2012. He enjoyed golfing, traveling and scuba diving, and was an avid Chicago Bears fan.
Richard was born September 13, 1950, Decatur, a son of Robert and Frieda (Nussbaum) Pyle. On December 19, 1998 he married his beloved wife Gayle Maxwell in Delphi. She survives in Roanoke. Also surviving are his father Robert Pyle of Berne, a son Kavan Pyle of Pittsburg, PA, 2 sisters Betty (Jerry) Burke and Carolyn (Jim) Moore and a brother David (Cindy) Pyle all of Berne, mother-in-law Rachel Maxwell of Lafayette, brothers-in-law Chuck (Debbie) Maxwell of Rossville, IL, Steven Maxwell of Delphi and Russell (Dianna) Maxwell of Delphi, and 2 sisters-in–law Rita (Ron) Drew of Lafayette and Peggy (Ron) Holt of Delphi. He was preceded in death by his mother Frieda Nussbaum Pyle, son Jeffrey Pyle, and father-in-law Perry Maxwell.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, October 20, from 2-4 pm at Roanoke Memorial Chapel of Deal-Rice Funeral Homes.
