Robert M. “Bob” Kelsey, age 97, of Roanoke, went on to his heavenly home Saturday, January 25, 2020 at 8:23 pm at Visiting Nurse & Hospice Home, Fort Wayne. Bob was born January 4, 1923, in Woodburn, a son of Floyd B. and Hilda (Bowman) Kelsey. He moved to Roanoke when he was 2 years old and graduated from Roanoke High School in 1942. He attended Purdue University, and served 2 tours in the US Army following WWII and in Korea. He worked as a manager and buyer at Stamford Department Store in Dubuque, Iowa, then went to Champaign, Illinois, to work as vice president, buyer, and manager of the men’s department of Robeson Department Store. Upon retiring he returned to his roots in Roanoke, where he was an active member of Seminary United Methodist Church, Roanoke American Legion Post #160, Kiwanis, and volunteered at Lutheran Hospital.
On April 28, 1957 he married his beloved wife of 62 years Nancy Wilson in Dubuque, Iowa. They recently moved from Roanoke to Fort Wayne, where she now resides. Also surviving are 2 sisters Phyllis Witherow of Roanoke and Barbara (Jim) Graham of Troy, Ohio, and 15 nieces and nephews who loved him dearly and always referred to him as the “fun uncle”. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister Patricia Watkins and 2 brothers Floyd Kelsey Jr. and Duane Kelsey. He will be dearly missed.
A celebration of life service will be held at a later date. Interment will then be in Glenwood Cemetery, Roanoke.
